# Customer accounts

If your store uses Shopify's new customer accounts, your customers can manage their subscriptions from inside their Shopify account instead of a page on your storefront. This page shows you how to add

{% hint style="info" %}
**Legacy customer accounts**

If your store still uses legacy customer accounts, keep using the storefront customer portal page described on the Customer Portal page. The "Shopify customer accounts" option in Subrise Settings is greyed out for stores on legacy accounts.
{% endhint %}

### Before you start

Your store must be on Shopify's new customer accounts.

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Settings > Customer accounts**.
2. If you see a yellow banner that says "You're using legacy customer accounts", click **Upgrade now**.
3. Shopify lets you revert to legacy accounts within 30 days if you need to.

### Open the customer accounts editor

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Settings > Customer accounts**.
2. Under "Customer accounts", find **Configurations** and click **Customize**.

### Add the Subscriptions page

1. In the editor, click the apps icon. It is the third icon at the top left, and the panel it opens is titled "Apps".
2. Under "Subrise Subscriptions" you will see two entries: "Subrise Subscription Blocks" and "Subrise Subscriptions".
3. Click the plus next to **Subrise Subscriptions**.
4. Under "Add page to", click **Accounts**.
5. Click **Save**.

Until you add the page, it shows "There's a problem loading this page" and any links to it do nothing.

### Add a menu item

Customers need a way to reach the page. Add it to the customer account menu.

1. In the editor's left panel, under "Main", open the menu called **Customer account main menu**.
2. Click **Add menu item**.
3. In **Label**, type a name such as "Subscriptions".
4. Click into the **Link** box and type "Subrise".
5. Pick the entry **Subrise Subscriptions** that shows the Subrise icon. Do not pick the one listed under Pages. That is the old storefront portal page.
6. Press the tick.
7. Click **Save**.

### Add the profile block (optional, recommended)

The profile block gives customers a quick summary of their subscriptions on their Profile page.

1. In the editor, use the page picker at the top to switch to the **Profile** page.
2. Under "Main", click **Add block**.
3. Choose **Subrise Subscription Blocks**.
4. Leave **Backend URL** empty.
5. Click **Save**.

The block only shows for customers who have an active subscription. It shows the number of active subscriptions, the next order date and a "Manage subscriptions" link to the full Subscriptions page.

### Add the order status block (optional)

1. In the editor, open any order.
2. Click **Add block**.
3. Choose **Subrise Subscription Blocks**.
4. Click **Save**.

The block only shows on orders that belong to a subscription.

### Point Subrise at customer accounts

1. In the Subrise admin, go to **Settings**.
2. Under **Portal location**, choose **Shopify customer accounts**.

The **Customers go to** link under the setting is where Subrise emails and the customer portal link in the Subrise admin send your customers. It points at the Subscriptions page inside customer accounts.

### What customers see

The Subscriptions page has two tabs: **Subscriptions** and **Order history**. A **Rewards** tab appears only when your store's loyalty program is enabled.

Each subscription card shows the status, frequency, next billing date, total and items, with **Manage subscription**, **Skip next order** and **Pause** buttons.

### The editor preview

The editor preview uses a sample customer who is not logged in, so the page shows "We couldn't load your subscriptions" inside the editor. This is expected. The page works for real logged-in customers.
